Wild at heart; an introvert stuck in a extroverts body; 35 going on 45 - a few words on how Amanda Hamilton describes herself. "Closet cat owner, don’t tell my dog who hasn’t seemed to notice yet. Will likely end up living in a forest somewhere with all of my books and vinyl." We would add - a vibrant human with an discerning eye for all things design, and a bold spirit with a closet that makes us swoon. Amanda is the Creative Director + Founder at Amanda Hamilton Interior Design. Her bold and unconventional approach to design and business has made her one of the most sought after interior designers in Western Canada. Not to mention, her uniquely curated wardrobe has coined her a style icon in this city.
With such a contagious personality you can't help but be drawn into Amanda's world of style, accomplishment and expression. She's just thankful "I’m not independently wealthy or I would spend my days buying the most exquisite things that I’m not cool enough to wear." When walking into her loft, there is no question that Amanda is rather the opposite: cool enough to wear it all. Vintage finds mingle with modern pieces and when we pan out, her home decor sense boldly reflects her personal style.

Who is your style icon?
I’ll admit it – the Olsen sisters. While their acting leaves much to be desired, I’ve watched them evolve like many other 80’s babes. They effortlessly blend vintage and designer brands and I dig their oversized menswear vibe. Also a fan of Stacey Bendet, the Creative Director of Alice + Olivia, for her unapologetic mishmash of colour, pattern and style. Love Iris Apfel who is theatric, adventurous and bold – she knows how to rock costume jewelry like no one else. Tom Ford because sometimes I like to envision what it would be like to be dressed head to toe in his garments on the daily – so chic and sophisticated.
What can’t you leave the house without?
Lipgloss. If I do leave the house without it, I will steal yours from your handbag and not even feel bad about it for a second and likely won’t return it either. Say good bye to your Carmex, Burt’s Bees, Blistex, Chapstick, Lipsmackers, MAC Lustre Gloss, Chanel Coco Gloss or Tom Ford Ultra Shine because if I forgot my lip gloss, your gloss is now our gloss. Sharing is caring.
Heels or flats?
If my feet could hold up to it, I would hands down say heels, 24/7. I’m 5’-4”-ish so I always feel much more pulled together in pumps. However, it really depends on my day - If I’m rocking around to meetings and on construction sites, I generally opt for a flat soled boot or sandal. If you can’t walk like a pro in them, don’t wear them. <Insert “preach” emoji”>
Leather or lace?
Lace for undergarments, leather for everything else. Speaking of which, can someone find me an electric blue or jade green leather skirt? I’ve been looking for what feels like forever. Thanks!
New or vintage?
If I had the patience for vintage shopping, Vintage 100%. It’s far more interesting to find a treasure somewhere and breathe new life into it. However, I would say most of my wardrobe is new but some pieces I’ve had for so long it sometimes feels like I’m wearing vintage - ha!

What look would you never be caught in?
I’m not sure I could say “never” because there have been all sorts of things I initially scoffed at over the years and then ended up purchasing, notably pointy-toed shoes, skinny jeans, high-waisted pants and crop tops. However, I have never been able to get behind midi-rings, peplum anything, v-necks, gingham, the colour red and nude nylons - but these are all things that could change, like if the earth froze over and I was reborn as someone else.
What’s your favourite consignment/thrift find?
I have a few favourites: A worn cognac coloured leather cross-body saddlebag that I picked up in Portland, a vintage silk Kimono I found in a boutique in New York and my absolute favourites are actually from Fond. I found this violet coloured Maxi skirt by Alice & Olivia and a blush pink Valentino jacket - who ever got rid of these pieces made my wardrobe that much more stylish.
"Like a well curated interior, your wardrobe communicates to other people what kind of person you are so it’s imperative to select things that speak to your personality and set you apart from others."
