If you were to ask Dione Setoguchi to explain herself in one word, you would get twenty. Maybe it’s her background in communications or just because there isn’t one word that can sum her up,“I once bought a 50 Cent CD and a Kenny Chesney CD at the same time, my music taste is random and cannot be explained.” She grew up in a small town in Southern Alberta and has a deep appreciation of where she came from. Her roots keep her grounded which are reflected in her core values: love, family, balance, success, strategy, health and communication.
Her heart is owned by her boyfriend Alex, her puppy Yoko, fitness and fashion. Dione’s love of clothes started very young; back to school shopping was one of her favourite times of the year. Even if her style has changed since her school days, her passion for style hasn’t. Style, to Dione, is self-expression; “You can look good in anything if you wear it with confidence.” Amen.
Who is your style icon?
Olivia Palermo and Jessica Alba. I also love how Tash Sefton & Elle Ferguson from They All Hate Us pair beautiful designer pieces with casual classics.
How would you describe your own style?
I wear what I want when I want to. I will always go for a mix of casual and comfort, which is probably the small town girl coming out in me.
What is your favourite consignment/thrift find?
When I lived in Minneapolis I purchased many vintage accessories and handbags. That was over 2 years ago, and I still wear each piece today. I also own the best pair of consignment Levi’s!
What inspired you to join Fond Boutique?
Joining Fond was a simple decision, and the timing of this is too perfect. I was looking for an outlet to express my personality, and use my business knowledge. Fond is unique because it is curated, and the fact that it is mobile allows me to work on other projects. I want to align myself with inspiring and creative women, insert Tanya. She was a friend first, and is someone who I have always respected. I love her style, innovation, and spirit!
What else are you working on right now?
So many things! I am passionate about offering management and leadership consulting to small businesses and retailers. To get in touch email me here! I also teach spin at YYC Cycle and have a top secret project in the works with my best friend/blogger Leah Lindsay from Oil&Grain #staytuned. See what I mean about aligning with the best boss babes?
What advice would you give to entrepreneurs?
To never say no to an idea. No idea is too crazy or unattainable. Your first idea might not be what you actually execute, but saying yes to things will lead you to the most amazing results.
How do you stay motivated?
I choose projects I am excited and passionate about. I have set personal and career goals that scare me in the best way possible!
What are your goals for Fond?
I want to do things we have never done before and do them well. I’m excited to announce that we will be launching “the 'a' collection" by FOND BOUTIQUE late this winter, offering our consigners and customers the opportunity to sell and shop high end athletic apparel!
What is your current style must-have?
2 of the last 5 pieces I bought were culottes…so let’s go with that? And always, always, vintage denim.
Where do you get inspiration from?
Have you ever heard the saying, “You become like the 5 people you spend most of your time with. Choose wisely.” I know I’ve made the best choices! My support system, my boyfriend and closest friends are all up to the coolest sh*t. They inspire me to create, believe in my ideas, and as cheesy as this sounds, have the most fun while doing it!
